Why Buy At An Auction?

If you have never been to or have never purchased merchandise at an auction, I can understand how it could be intimidating.  The auctioneer's rhythmic chant is pleasing to the ear, but you have trouble keeping up with what is going on.  To the untrained ear, the chant sounds like mere gibberish, but after closer examination, you begin to understand  that all the auctioneer is saying is what money has been bid and how much more money he would like.

Now that you understand what is taking place, you may still be unsure of the auction method. Consider the following points about buying at an auction:

  • Reduces negotiation time
  • Simple, easy and fun
  • Reduces fear of overpayment
  • Gives each potential buyer equal opportunity to purchase

So the next time you have the opportunity to purchase merchandise at an auction, follow these simple steps:

  1. Arrive at least 30 minutes early
  2. Register and receive buyer number
  3. Inspect merchandise
  4. Bid on desired merchandise
  5. Be sure to keep track of what you bought and for how much to avoid sticker shock when you cash out.
  6. When you are done bidding on items, be sure to cash out before you leave and make arrangements for loading.
  7. Now you can return home with your treasures and enjoy!
